Deep South
Deep South
Sandra, Daniela and I had planned a Motorcycle trip through New England, over into Canada, around Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and back home. Due to extremely miserable weather in New England and Easter Canada we decided to head South. Start was at St. James in the extreme Southeastern part of North Carolina from where we headed to the mountains to pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway. We crossed the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. One of the highlights of the trip was riding The Dragon Tail along US 129 in Tennessee and North Carolina with a supercool 318 turns in 11 miles. Riding through GA and AL we picked up the Natchez Trace Trail going back North which was a blast to ride. No traffic, long sweeping turns for hundreds of miles and not one traffic signal. We rode fantastic, super-twisty mountain roads through coal-mining towns in Kentucky. We followed the Blue Ridge Mountains for a while and then angled over towards the coast where we hit the Outer Banks in Kitty Hawk. Alternately riding and taking the ferry we followed the Outer Banks down to Cedar Island and down the coast to Southport. We stayed dry all the way except for the last 150 miles. If this all sounds too complicated then check out the map below - courtesy of Sandra. Check her website for her pictures of this trip.
