Neil and I had planned for month to go into the Pine-barrens and go Quad racing. Finally we got our act together and did it.

We had a blast!

Last time I rode at the NJ Offroad Park I very nearly destroyed my Suzuki Eiger Utility Quad (by racing and jumping it) so we decided to rent this time.

We rented a Suzuki Quadracer R450 and a Yamaha YFZ450. We both liked the Suzuki a bit more. I soaked up bumps better and made you feel more in control. Additionally the fuel injection is sweet.

Rent was a whopping $120 for the half day and I had to fork over another $100 for a bent front bumper as I had hit a tree. Twice in fact. The trails at NJ Offroad Park are cool and twisty but also very narrow and there are tons of Pine trees lining each side of the trail. As soon as one wheel catches the side of the embankment of the “channel” you are riding in, the the Quad gets drawn right into it and you most likely hit a tree or at the very least go over the handlebars and overturn the quad. The Quad also had a silly “Rental” flag which disintegrated of the the first trail. We took it off, fixed it up with Duck-tape and only reattached it when we brought the Quad back, and that seemed to be all-right. :-)

So I spent a total of $220 for nearly four hours of fun, crazy riding and one ok and one quite cool crash. That’s not bad on my book.

Have a look at a video from the trails!
